About us

In our Society we have both performing and non performing members. Rehearsals for performing members take place on Tuesday evenings in Bristol (with extra rehearsals on Wednesdays and Sundays as we approach the show) and include an interval to catch up on all the gossip over a cup of tea!

The Society stages one G&S opera each year - in addition to which, we perform several concerts throughout the season. We are a friendly bunch who come from all walks of life and our ages range from teenage through to retirement! We are extremely committed to what we do but have a huge amount of fun along the way.

For Hire

In addition to our annual production, BGSOS also offer entertainment packages. Tailored to your occasion, we can provide any size from small chamber group to full company and can perform in period dress or evening wear. - See the Hire Us page for more details.

Become a Member

We are always keen to welcome new members, whether on the performing side, or as non-singing members who might be keen to help out backstage. Contact our secretary secretary@bristolgsos.co.uk for more information, or check out events on our website and Facebook page.

Performing members are admitted upon successful audition, however, don't worry if you don't want to sing! There are always plenty of other jobs to do, for example costumes, make-up, scenery etc.

Our Society was originally formed as a musical appreciation society - then in 1962 a performing group was formed and the first production was staged. The Society now concentrates on performance and one G&S opera is staged each year - in addition to which, we perform several charity concerts throughout the season. We are a friendly bunch who come from all walks of life and our ages range from teenage through to retirement! We are extremely committed to what we do but have a huge amount of fun along the way. Indeed our common love of music and drama has created firm friendships between many people whose paths may not otherwise have crossed.
